Description

When your clutch starts grabbing or your brakes feel mushy, you know it’s time to check that master cylinder. This dual-function unit controls both your brake and clutch systems in one compact package, and when it’s working right, you get that crisp pedal feel that makes precise work possible. Whether you’re threading between fence posts or backing up to a hay wagon, you need hydraulics that respond exactly when you press the pedal.

What You’re Getting

  • Single cylinder operates both brake and clutch systems efficiently
  • Built specifically for LHM mineral oil systems – no mixing with regular brake fluid
  • Precision-bored cylinder gives you consistent pressure and smooth operation
  • Robust construction handles the higher pressures that LHM systems demand
  • Direct replacement that bolts right in without modifications

Built for Real Farm Work

Your David Brown handles everything from cultivation to loader work, and these tractors were built when farming meant heavy loads and long days. The 990 series earned its reputation pulling plows through tough ground, while the larger 1490s became favorites for hay operations where smooth clutch control keeps you from jarring expensive equipment. These machines excel at the kind of mixed farming where you need reliable hydraulics whether you’re feathering the clutch on a hillside or making an emergency stop with a loaded spreader.

Made to Last

LHM fluid runs at higher pressures than regular brake fluid, so this cylinder uses specialized seals and tighter tolerances to handle the extra stress. The internal components resist the corrosion that builds up after years of temperature swings and constant use. Since one cylinder controls two critical safety systems, it’s engineered extra robust to handle that responsibility without failure.

Good to Know

Before installation, make absolutely sure you have LHM mineral oil – never use DOT brake fluid as it’ll destroy the seals immediately. Bleeding these systems takes patience since LHM doesn’t compress air bubbles the same way. Start with the clutch slave, then work your way through the brakes beginning with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder. Keep that reservoir topped up during bleeding, and if you’re replacing this due to internal leakage, consider rebuilding your slave cylinders too – contaminated fluid might have damaged their seals as well.
