Description
If you’ve got a puddle of oil under your old Ford every morning, there’s a good chance this little rope seal is the culprit. The front upper crankshaft rope seal sits right where the crankshaft exits the engine block, and when it wears out, oil finds its way onto the ground instead of staying where it belongs. This TISCO replacement gets your vintage Ford sealed up tight again, so you can focus on the work instead of constantly checking oil levels.
What You’re Getting
- Traditional rope-style seal that matches original Ford design – no modifications needed
- Absorbs oil and swells to create a tight seal around the crankshaft
- Quality materials that handle the constant rotation and heat cycling
- Direct replacement that installs just like the original did back in the day
Built for Classic Fords
This seal fits the legendary Ford N-series tractors – 9N, 2N, and 8N models from 1939 to 1952. These are the tractors that put Ford on the farm map and are still doing honest work today. Whether you’re running a restored 8N for parades or using a 2N for actual farm chores, keeping the oil inside the engine is pretty important for longevity.
Made to Last
Rope seals might seem old-fashioned compared to modern lip seals, but they work perfectly for these vintage engines. The rope material soaks up oil and expands to fill the space around the crankshaft, creating an effective seal that handles the slower RPMs and looser tolerances of these old Fords. When properly installed, this seal will keep your engine oil where it belongs for years.
Installation Notes
This is definitely an engine-out job since you’ll need access to the front of the crankshaft. Take your time packing the rope seal properly in the groove – too tight and it’ll bind the crankshaft, too loose and it won’t seal. Clean the crankshaft journal thoroughly and check for scoring that might prevent a good seal. A little assembly lube helps during installation.
